One standard for how Long Island players train and compete. Pre-Academy training, camps and clinics, and summer select teams, all coached by licensed professionals. Players keep their club.

The Royal Standard

Every program says it develops players. We wrote down what that means so families can hold us to it. The Standard has two halves: how we train and how we compete.

How we train

  • A licensed coach runs every session. USSF License.
  • Every session follows Play-Practice-Play. Players start in a game, work on one topic, and finish in a game. There are no lines, laps or lectures.
  • Each age band follows a written curriculum, so players build on last month instead of repeating it.

How we compete

  • Teams are picked at open tryouts, from any club, on what we see on the field.
  • Each team is placed in the competition that fits its level. We want games that are hard to win and possible to win.
  • We play the way we train. Players are expected to solve problems on the ball, not kick away from them.
  • Players, coaches and parents follow one code of conduct.

Train with intention. Compete with courage.

Keep your club. Add to it.

Royal Sporting started in 2018 by placing licensed trainers inside community clubs across Long Island, and that work continues today. The Academy is for players in those clubs, and in any other club, who want more hours and harder games than one team can give them. Nothing here replaces a club team. Pre-Academy runs alongside the club season, and Summer Select starts when it ends.

Three ways to train and compete with Royal

  1. Summer Select
  2. Camps and clinics

Summer Select

Select teams for the summer season. Boys and girls, U9–U12.

When the club season ends, Summer Select begins. Players from clubs across Long Island try out, train together as a team, and play a full summer schedule of competitive matches. Players get a harder environment for the summer and go back to their club in the fall. More information coming soon.

Camps and clinics

These are short programs with a single focus. Camps run during school breaks and the summer. Clinics run for a few weeks and go deep on one part of the game. Both are open to players from any club and coached to the same Standard as everything else we do. More information coming soon.

What families can expect

  • Coaches who know your player and what they're working on
  • Honest feedback, including when the answer is "not yet"
  • The same standard in every program and at every age

What we ask of players

  • Show up on time and ready to work
  • Try the hard thing, and expect to get it wrong first
  • Respect teammates, opponents and referees
  • Own your development: ask questions and train on your own

FAQ

Does my player have to leave their club?

No. Every program here is built to sit alongside a club team, not replace it.

What league do the summer teams play in?

It depends on the team. Each summer we place every team in the competition that matches its age and level. We tell families where their team is playing before the season starts.

Does my player need to try out?

Only for Summer Select. Pre-Academy, camps and clinics are open registration, and players are grouped by age and level. [CONFIRM]
